CommandLine Method

To install the NAS components from a command line:

1. If you're installing from the CD, insert the Server Appliance Kit 3.0 CD into the CD-ROM drive. (Alternatively, you can install from a network directory.)

2. At a command prompt, type the following (note that while the syntax is printed here on multiple lines, this is actually a single command):

msiexec /i [path\]sasetup30.msi [ARPHELPLINK="support_URL"] [ADDLOCAL="component[,component...]"] /qn

Arguments: path

The fully qualified path of the NAS sasetup30.msi file. If the sasetup30.msi file is in the current directory, you can omit the path.

support_URL

Specifies the full Web address of a Web site which your customers can read to obtain support information for their server appliance. This URL appears in the Add or Remove Programs Control Panel dialog box.

component

Specifies the component you want to install. The following components can be installed. Component names are case sensitive and must be entered exactly as shown. No blank spaces may appear in the comma-separated list of components:

Installs support for Network Attached Storage (NAS) features. This component is required and must be specified.

BackEndFramework

Installs supporting software for the SAK frameworks. This component is required and must be specified.

WebUI

Installs supporting software for the Web UI framework. This component is required if you are installing any Web UI components.

SetDateAndTime

Allows an administrator to set the date and time on the appliance via the Web UI. Set_Language

Detects the language of the first Web browser that connects to the appliance after first boot, and automatically sets the appliance's language accordingly.

Includes a Web UI component that allows an administrator to change the language of the appliance manually.

UsersAndGroups

Allows an administrator to create, delete, and edit properties for local users and groups via the Web UI.

NetworkSetup

Allows an administrator to join the appliance into a workgroup or domain, set the host name, configure DNS servers, configure individual network adapters, and change the administrator password via the Web UI.

Telnet

Allows an administrator to enable Telnet access to the appliance via the Web UI. Warning: Messages sent via Telnet are not encrypted. Consequently, passwords are transmitted in clear text.

Logs

Allows an administrator to view, clear, download, and configure logs via the Web UI.

AlertEmail

Allows an administrator to specify via the Web UI the type of e-mail alerts the appliance sends and to what e-mail address it sends them.

Shutdown

Allows an administrator to shut down or restart the appliance via the Web UI. RemoteDesktop

Allows an administrator to connect to the appliance via Remote Desktop from within the Web UI.

SystemBackup

This feature can be used only by Windows clients. It allows an administrator to back up and restore files on the appliance. This feature uses an ActiveX control for the Windows Terminal Services client to provide the backup functionality via the Web UI. This feature is otherwise identical to the capability provided on Windows Server 2003.

FoldersAndShares

Allows an administrator to create, delete, and set the properties of folders via the Web UI. Folder properties include compression, encryption, and security. If you specify this component, you must also specify Services.

DisksAndVols

This feature can be used only by Windows clients. It allows an administrator to manage disks and volumes via the Web UI. This feature uses an ActiveX control for the Windows Terminal Services client to provide access to the disk management Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in on the appliance.

ShadowCopyManagement

Allows an administrator to manage shadow copies via the Web UI. ScheduledDefragmentation

Allows an administrator to set up disk defragmentation for volumes at particular times or intervals via the Web UI.

SysInfo

Displays information about the appliance operating system and hardware. UPS

Allows the administrator to manage via the Web UI an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) device connected to the appliance.

Services

Installs supporting software for the Folders and Shares feature. LocalUI

The Local UI Framework allows you to develop your own content to plug into the local UI, without requiring any code changes to the Local UI Framework code.

ChineseSimp, ChineseTrad, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Spanish

Installs UI and Help for the following languages:
